Biographical Sketch:
Bill Brand is the Director of Programs at the Public Health Informatics Institute, and brings nearly 25 years of experience working on state, local and national public health issues. Among the projects he directs is the CDC-funded Enhanced Technical Assistance Project (ETAP), which assists CDC IIS grantees with strategic planning, implementation plans, vendor relations, business plan design, data quality plans, gap analysis, policy development, testing plans, help desk operation plans, and integration/interoperability planning. Mr. Brand also directs the Institute’s activities in serving as Secretariat to the Joint Public Health Informatics Taskforce (JPHIT), a consortium of nine public health associations with an interest in informatics, including the American Immunization Registry Association. He frequently advices local and state health departments and associations on informatics issues, and he a frequent presenter at conferences and on webinars, including many presentations on the implications of Meaningful Use for public health agencies.
Prior to coming to the Institute, Mr. Brand served as the director of Minnesota’s statewide immunization registry for eight years at the Minnesota Department of Health. Later, he served as the Deputy Director of the Minnesota Department of Health Center for Health Informatics and the Minnesota e-Health Initiative. In this role, he helped create a statewide vision for improved population health through effective use of interoperable health information technologies among private and public entities.
