Biographical Sketch:
Jim Kirkwood serves as ASTHO’s Senior Director of e-health, overseeing ASTHO’s work on public health informatics. This includes providing technical assistance to state and territorial public health agencies on public health informatics and national health information technology (HIT) activities. He has also been engaged as ASTHO’s HIT subject matter expert to support its Part I Capacity Building Assistance in the National Public Health Improvement Initiative (NPHII). He is also serving part time in a national leadership capacity as a detailed senior advisor to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT). Prior to ASTHO, he worked at the New York State Department of Health providing technical assistance and capacity building to local health departments in epidemiology / preparedness planning and served as a program lead on the state’s syndromic surveillance system and its countermeasure and response administration system.
