Biographical Sketch:
2005 - present -- Deputy Director, CDC, National Center for Health Statistics, Division of Vital Statistics, Hyattsville, MD 2000 to 2002 -- Executive Director, National Association for Public Health Statistics and Information Systems, Silver Spring, MD 1987 to 1997 -- Director of the NC State Center for Health Statistics, Raleigh, NC Assisting in the development of this nation’s health statistics on births and deaths. Oversees the re-engineering of the Division’s IT systems to improve the timeliness of the health statistics, and working with states to improve their vital and health statistics systems. Areas of expertise: 1.Vital and health statistics analysis and systems, particularly issues around births and deaths and minority health. 2.Planning, design, and development of health IT systems and the interoperability of systems 3.Project management of IT systems. 4.Directed over 10 major competitive grant awards to improve statistical and/or IT systems. 2010 – Selected as President-elect of the UNC School of Public Health Foundation Board; now chair of the Student Support Committee. Serves as a board member of the Howard County Foundation for Black Education and Cultural Achievement. Served as President and as an Executive Board Member of the School of Public Health Alumni Association. Member of the Dean’s Advisory Committee, and serves on numerous committees of the UNC School of Public Health. Adjunct faculty member in the department of biostatistics, UNC School of Public Health. Member of the Project Management Institute. Member of the American Public Health Association. Formally a member of the NC Public Health Association. 2009 - Minority Alumni Award from the UNC School of Public Health Minority Caucus 2009 - Federal CPIC Forum Award for excellence in project management 2005 - Recognized by the UNC School of Public Health for work in minority health by permanent inscription of name on one wall of the building 2002 - Visionary Award for the N.C. Minority Health Council 2000 - Statistics Award (Government Sector) from the American Public Health Association 1992 - Rankin Award and the Excellence in Statistics and Epidemiology Award from the N.C. Public Health Association
