Biographical Sketch:
Mr. Dereje Mamo is Director, Policy and planning Directorate at the Federal Ministry of Health, Ethiopia since July 2010 where he oversees a large national scale up effort of a reformed HMIS to all regions of the country involving over 192 Hospitals, 3,200 Health Centers and 15,000 Health Posts.
His office is charged with the planning, monitoring and managing of collaborations with Regional State Health Bureaus as well as a wide range of partners and donors in order to see a successful implementation of HMIS with the end goal of promoting and increasing data demand and use at all levels of the health system.
Prior to joining the FMOH, Mr. Mamo served at a similar capacity in the Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Regional Health Bureau for 3 years as Planning Monitoring and Evaluation Process Owner & Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Specialist in Awassa, SNNP, Ethiopia.
During this tenure at SNNP RHB, Mr. Mamo was a champion in supporting and actively participating in the development and implementation of various eHMIS tools supported by the JSI HMIS Scale-up project.
