The NCPHI Architecture Project is used as a case study to describe the CDC Enterprise Architecture methodology, including its history and evolution, drivers, methods, workflow, participants, and output (both required and optional).  This methodology applies to all CDC Enterprise Architecture projects and can be used by partner organizations when tailored to meet their particular needs.  The outputs of this methodology (Segment Architectures) figure prominently in reviews for the CDC Unified Process and the HHS Enterprise Performance Life Cycle, which are soon to be required for all HHS funded IT projects including all PHIN projects at CDC.    During the case study, over 50 systems and services were examined and conceptual target architecture, concept of operations and a transition strategy were defined.
