The National Center for Public Health Informatics (NCPHI) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has adopted the use of communities of practice (CoP) as a means to facilitate the implementation of its Public Health Information Network (PHIN). Currently, several CoPs sponsored by NCPHI serve to advance public health informatics at CDC and among its partners. This presentation will provide an overview of assessment results of Existing NCPHI sponsored communities including: history, stated objectives, membership, outputs, and current relationship to PHIN. In addition, this presentation will explore similarities and differences in these communities, organizational and planning strategies, and how these communities can be leveraged to build a network that supports the development of a true Public Health Information Network.
