The next generation of the PHIN Vocabulary Access and Distribution System (VADS) targets the user experience, featuring an enhanced website that makes the search and download of vocabulary objects, such as concepts and value sets, both simpler and more powerful for end users.

This session will identify the changes with most impact on the user experience through an interactive demonstration of the new VADS Browser application.  The demonstration will include working examples of improvements to areas such as navigation, look & feel, functionality, and user interface controls.  The session is appropriate for both new users and those familiar with the existing application.

The new VADS Browser is also the first application to utilize the new VADS service-oriented architecture (SOA), and thus presents a working example for those seeking to integrate vocabulary services into their own applications.  The session will discuss the opportunities and challenges of migrating from a standalone back end to SOA from the perspective of an application designer.
