Online video is emerging as an innovative strategy for delivering health information to the public. While online video is not new, this medium has rapidly accelerated over the past two years. Originally viewed only as startups, online video sites such as
YouTube
are becoming more popular than many traditional media sites. While the capacity for delivering health messages through online video is still being explored, the potential for ‘viral’ sharing of health messages from a respected source via peer-to-peer communication remains extremely promising. In February, 2008, 2.9
billion
video streams were viewed on YouTube. CDC is on the cutting edge of delivering tailored health communication messages through these new media channels.
