Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Savel is the Acting Associate Director for Science at CDC’s National Center for Public Health Informatics. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Wesleyan University and an MD degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He completed a fellowship in Public Health Informatics at the CDC. His clinical training has included both General Surgery and Family Practice, and he has had direct experience developing, using and implementing information systems. He has been a technology columnist for American Medical News, as well as an on-air technology consultant for the Fox News affiliate in Houston, Texas. His current interests include leveraging open-source solutions and Grid technologies to enhance public health and the overall healthcare system.
