Biographical Sketch:
1979 - 1981 -- Director, Upper Peninsula Branch Laboratories (Michigan) 1982-1985 -- Deputy Director, Division of Microbiology, Michigan Department of Public Health 1985-1991 -- Director, Division of Microbiology, Michigan Department of Public Health 1991 - 1999 -- Director, Bureau of Laboratories, Michigan Department of Public Health 1999-2006 -- Director, Division of Laboratory Systems, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2006 - 2007 -- Acting Director, National Center for Public Health Informatics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 2008 - Present -- Laboratory Science Officer, Coordinating Office for Global Health, Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention Responsible for implementation of use of new technolgies in Michigan laboratories to address public health (molecular methods for epidemiology and diaagnosis), and implementation of an enterprise-wide laboratory information system. Responsible for directing efforts (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Ammendments) that address the practcice of laboratory medicine in the U.S. and responsible for leading efforts towards the concept of a national system of laboratories (clinical, state and local public health, and federal). Responsible for re-directing early efforts addressing the development of a national system with a vision of a public health "grid" in which participants would share information critical to the public's health. Currently responsible for catalyzing efforts of CDC programs and partners to address the development of laboratory capacity in resource limited countries. Has worked in Africa, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Asia, and Latin America addressing laboratory infrastructure. Author or co-author of over 30 publications. Numerous presentations at national and international meetings.
