Biographical Sketch:
Ms. Horan has devoted her 20+ year career at CDC to surveillance of healthcare-associated infections, first as the Surveillance Coordinator for the National Nosocomial Infections Surveillance (NNIS) system and since 2000, as Team Leader for the development of the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). Through NHSN, Ms. Horan directs the expansion of the scope of surveillance to include healthcare delivery venues beyond the hospital and adherence to proven patient care practices that prevent infectious and noninfectious complications. Ms. Horan is an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Epidemiology at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health and a Captain in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps. Her work has been recognized with 3 individual and 3 group awards. In addition, she has received the Carole DeMille Achievement Award and the Elaine Larson Lectureship from the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology. Ms. Horan has authored more than 30 scientific articles and 7 book chapters.
