Biographical Sketch:
Informatics – Messaging Coordinator PHIN DBA I install, configure, administer, and maintain all software and hardware components of the OSDH developing messaging infrastructure, both onsite and off. As data manager I supervised data entry and coordinated all aspects of data entry, analysis, storage and retrieval. As Director of Sampling and Bioinformatics I was responsible for managing and training from three to thirty people depending on the project. I trained newly hired employees as will as directed continuing education of employees. I was involved in all aspects of a startup biotech company including patents, mission statement, business plan, fund raising and budget. Genetics – I received traditional genetics training in the laboratory of nationally known Eldon Gardner. With Dr. Gardner I looked at human genetic traits including a condition known as Gardner’s Syndrome. As I developed as a research scientist I concentrated on Molecular Biology, including DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, differential display, construction and manipulation of cDNA libraries, sequencing, and cloning. I studied cancer susceptibility genes and the role these genes play in determing cancer risk. Educator –I have taught university level classes in Molecular Biology, Statistics, Database design and development as will as the programming language SQL. Computers – Languages - FORTRAN, BASIC, PASCAL, Assembly language and C. I have a good overall grasp of programming more recently object oriented programming. In the last 10 years I regularly programmed in SAS, HTML, ebXML and Visual Studio Systems – Primarily Windows but some experience in MacOS and UNIX, Programs - I am an advanced user of the Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook. Epidemiological Studies – I have designed, coordinated and managed sample collection for a breast cancer case control study on genetic markers. I designed and developed all necessary tools for the case control study such as; the IRB, and self-reporting questionnaire on medical and family history used in the study. I designed and programmed a database that recorded, retrieved and analyze information obtained from the study participants. I programmed the interface necessary to transfer the database information into the SAS system for statistical analysis. Statistics – developed procedures for seamless transfer of patient date from the database to SAS format allowing for analysis by generalized linear modeling and logistic regression. I have recently taken several statistical classes at OUHSC.
