Biographical Sketch:
Current position: Environmental Epidemiology Team Leader and Senior Scientist, National Center for Environmental Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Currently a member of the International Society for the Study of Harmful Algae, the Interagency Working Group on Harmful Algal Blooms, Hypoxia, and Human Health, of the Joint Subcommittee on Ocean Science and Technology; the Science Advisory Board for Hollings Marine Laboratory, Charleston, South Carolina and the Oceans and Human Health Center of Excellence at the University of Miami; and the Florida Harmful Algal Bloom Task Force. Current research interests include assessing the public health effects from human exposures to algal toxins in drinking and recreational waters. She is also involved in studies to assess human exposures to and health effects from drinking water contaminants, particularly arsenic and nitrate. She is involved in studies to assess the efficacy of home filtration systems to remove contaminants from water supplied by small systems and private wells.
