Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Suarez is a physician and a public health and medical information systems specialist, and the President and CEO of the Institute for HIPAA/HIT Education and Research. He provides project management, technical and policy analysis and program evaluation services to health care provider organizations, health plans, Medicaid and Medicare programs, Public Health agencies and vendors in the areas of health IT adoption, health information exchange (HIE), public health data standards, health disparities, quality measurement, health information privacy and security standards, and HIPAA standards including Transactions and Code Sets and the National Provider Identifier. Dr. Suarez is an active member of several national organizations and initiatives, including: ƒÞFounding President of the Public Health Data Standards Consortium ƒÞMember of the Executive Board, Joint Public Health Informatics Task Force (JPHIT) ƒÞMember of the Board of Directors of the Health Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP) where he also serves as co-chair of the HITSP Security, Privacy and Infrastructure Technical Committee and co-chair of the HITSP Education Committee ƒÞMember of the Technical Advisory Panel of the Health Information Security and Privacy Collaborative (HISPC) ƒÞExpert Panel Member, Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) ƒÞMember of the National Uniform Claims Committee Over the past five years he has delivered more than 150 one-day and half-day workshops, seminars and training programs in Minnesota, the Midwest and throughout the country. He is also a guest lecturer on HIPAA, Privacy and Security and Public Health Informatics at various University settings.
