Biographical Sketch:
Albert M. Lai is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Columbia University. Albert recently
received his Ph.D. in biomedical informatics (with distinction) from
Columbia University. His dissertation was entitled A Remote Training
Approach for Teaching Seniors to Use a Telehealth System. Albert also has an M.S. and a B.S. in computer science from Columbia
University. Before studying biomedical informatics, he was involved in
the design and performance evaluation of thin-client protocols over wide area networks. Recent efforts include work on grid-enabling MedLEE, integrating MedLEE into PHGrid, and using MedLEE for syndromic surveillance. His current research interests are in data mining, temporal reasoning, home telemedicine, usability, and portable devices to support clinical decision making at the point of care.
