National Center for Public Health Informatics (NCPHI): Scientific Updates & Town Hall Session

The purpose of this panel-driven session is to update conference participants on the scientific activities of the National Center for Public Health Informatics (NCPHI), and for the advising body (the Board of Scientific Counselors [BSC]) to describe its activities and receive constituent feedback.

The panel consists of three panelists and a moderator: 1) the Director of NCPHI will present a status report on scientific projects and activities; and 2) board members will present an overview of Board efforts with an emphasis on NCPHI's interface with state and local health departments and other Federal efforts.

Panel Goal:

The goal of the panel is to update the audience on the status of NCPHI projects and activities and receive feedback from PHIN conference attendees.

Objectives:

  1. Present an overview of NCPHI's key scientific projects and activities (e.g. BioSense, PH Grid, Epi-Info, EHR, HIEs).

  2. Receive feedback on how to communicate the informatics concepts to our public health partners.

  3. Discuss the need and importance of connecting NCPHI to other Federal efforts.

This session will have appeal for any PHIN Conference participants interested in the broad scope and range of public health informatics and how members of the audience can participate in the NCPHI efforts.

The theme for the panel will be to both share and gather information from the audience through engagement of public health informatics professionals as part of the quest for better public health.

Synopsis of presentations

The planned format is similar to usual panel discussions. Each panelist will be allotted 15-20 minutes for a short presentation/talk. After panelist presentations, the moderator will open the floor to questions for 30 minutes.
