caGrid is a Grid toolkit aimed at enabling collaborative scientific investigations. caGrid is funded by the National Cancer Institute’s Cancer Biomedical Informatics Grid program. As a result, many caGrid features already meet the needs of the biomedical informatics community. Currently, other communities are choosing caGrid because the toolkit provides informatics infrastructure that meets their requirements. In the public health informatics community, the CDC is prototyping phGrid using caGrid.
caGrid provides features to enable the following:
1.    Creation of Grid analytical and data services via the Introduce toolkit
2.    Advertisement and discovery of Grid services
3.    An extensive security framework (GAARDS) to implement data sharing security policies
4.    Semantic annotation of Grid data
5.    Annotation of metadata for Grid services and Grid data models
6.    Federated data query and retrieval
This tutorial demonstrates features of the most recent caGrid release with the goal of educating the audience on how to utilize caGrid to create and deploy a Grid analytical service. The tutorial will walk the user through the process of creating a Grid analytical service, adding service metadata, deploying the service to the Grid, and discovering the analytical service on the Grid.
