Biographical Sketch:
Mr. Ted Klein has spent over thirty years in software development, devoting the last 18 years to the healthcare industry. He was a Principal Technical Fellow at McKessonHBOC where he developed large robust healthcare data models and coordinated distributed development efforts in the overseas operations. Ted also founded the McKessonHBOC HL7 Interface group to develop common HL7 standard implementation guides across all the company acquisitions, both in the US and abroad. Ted was Chief Scientist with cMore Medical Solutions, Inc., a leading developer of physician documentation systems for non-invasive surgical procedures (now ProVation Medical). While there, he worked to implement both HL7 and DICOM in the cMore products. He chaired the Modeling and Methodology Technical Committee in Health Level Seven for six years, has been a key member of the HL7 Version 3 development team, and is a recipient of the W. Ed Hammond Volunteer of the Year Award. Ted was part of the original Version 3 development team from the early 1990s, and came to recognize the critical role played by terminology in the Version 3 standards development process. He thus stepped up to chair the HL7 Vocabulary Technical Committee, a position he has held for the past eight years. He is a member of the Clinical LOINC committee, and has also served on the HL7 Board of Directors.
