Biographical Sketch:
Ken Gerlach, MPH, CTR is a Health Scientist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Cancer Surveillance Branch (CSB) of the Division of Cancer Prevention and Control where he works on activities to integrate public health informatics with cancer surveillance. As such, he serves as the Project Officer and technical advisor for informatics related projects and represents CDC on national cancer surveillance committees such as the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Cancer Committee. The CSB administers the National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), a program to establish and promote cancer surveillance in the United States. He has approximately 20 years of cancer surveillance experience at the hospital, central, and national level. Prior to assuming the position of Health Scientist, he served for over 5 years as an Epidemiologists in the CSB where he served as a NPCR Project Officer, represented CDC on national cancer surveillance committees, and participated in activities to establish and maintain the Cancer Surveillance System, a system to receive cancer data from participating NPCR registries. During this period, Mr. Gerlach began his participation in a project to assess the feasibility of submitting the College of American Pathologists Cancer Checklists directly from pathology laboratories to cancer registries. Currently, he serves as the Chair of the NAACCR Interoperability Ad Hoc Committee and Co-Chair of the NAACCR Clinical Data Work Group.
