Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Kass-Hout has over 12 years of experience in health, public health, and informatics, and has led research and development initiatives, critical assessment of new and emerging health IT technologies, and development of new capabilities and solutions in health and public health for customers in federal, state, commercial, and international health organizations. In 2005, Dr. Kass-Hout served as the Senior Medical Advisor to the United States’ Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) Architecture Prototype built by Northrop Grumman Corporation. During the response to the 2003 SARS outbreak, Dr. Kass-Hout led the US informatics and information technology task at the National Center for Infectious Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Dr. Kass-Hout holds memberships in professional (national, and international) societies, has published in several peer-reviewed journals and presented at numerous national and international forums. Dr. Kass-Hout holds one patent pending (methodology and platform for disease surveillance from unstructured and structured sources of information and linking early detection to effective and timely response: the Global Disease Surveillance Platform (or GDSPTM); Kass-Hout and Mirabito, 2006). Dr. Kass-Hout holds a Doctor of Medicine and Masters of Science (biostatistics) degrees with clinical practice training at Harvard’s Beth Israel Hospital and University of Texas Medical Center at Houston.
