We will review findings from a recent case-control chart abstraction study conducted in selected California family planning sentinel IPP clinics. The study identified risk factors efficient in targeting chlamydia in non-pregnant women aged >25 years, resulting in a reduction in screening in this age group. The sample included 83 chlamydia-positive client visits and a random sample of 362 chlamydia-negative visits among women age 26-44 years tested for chlamydia. We compared the relative efficiency of screening algorithms (percent screened and case yields) with national and targeted criteria identified in this evaluation and a previous prospective evaluation using patient- and clinician-completed forms.
