Treatment and Follow-up

Adequate treatment and follow-up of patients is a key component of an effective STD screening program. Treating students who test CT/GC positive in school settings is generally more effective than using public health clinics, because the students can be easily located. Within and across localities, there is no single best approach to locating or notifying infected students of their test results and offering treatment in schools. What may work in one school may not work or may not be accepted in another school, even within the same school district. Processes for treatment are often negotiated on a school-by-school basis.
