The licensed quadrivalent HPV vaccine includes HPV types 6 and 11 which are collectively responsible for almost all cases of genital warts. Routine and ongoing surveillance of genital warts will therefore allow monitoring the impact of the HPV vaccine on non-cancer outcomes. The STD Surveillance Network (SSuN) consists of 16 STD clinics in 5 states, all of which evaluate large numbers of patients with genital warts. As such the SSuN network provides an ideal infrastructure in which to establish standardized methodology for conducting genital warts surveillance. Genital warts surveillance project in SSuN clinics will be discussed.
