Biographical Sketch:
1997-Present - Vice President Healthcare Planning, Planned Parenthood of New York City, NY, NY. Provides leadership in strategic planning and advocacy in adolescent health, public insurance/clinical operations and the impact of religious restrictions on reproductive health care. Plays key role in policy areas with the city and state Departments of Health. Oversees city-wide training initiative for provider agencies on the areas of public insurance and reproductive health services. 1992-1997 - Director of Infant Child Health Assessment Program, Medical Health Research Association (MHRA), NY, NY 1988-1992 - Director of Maternal-Child Outpatient Services, St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Center, NY, NY 1986-1988 - Director of Homeless Family Program 1984-1986 - Maternal-Child Nurse. Postpartum/Nursery Unit As Vice President of Health Care Planning at Planned Parenthood of New York City, Ms. Berger concentrates on the interface of health care reform and reproductive health services. As a key subset, Ms. Berger has specialized in public insurance policy and its impact on clinical and advocacy issues. She has focused for many years on adolescent health issues and chairs the Adolescent Health Committee in NYC. She has worked extensively with ensuring comprehensive primary care to at-risk families through her work at MHRA as Director of the Infant Child Health Assessment Program. Prior to that, she directed the Prenatal Care and Assistance Program at St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Center. Ms. Berger was a founding member and co-chair of the New York State Assembly Health Committee/Perinatal Advisory Committee. In addition, Ms. Berger was instrumental in the policy and operational crafting of the NYS Medicaid Family Planning Benefit Program. Ms. Berger was awarded the Shirley Gordon Public Policy Leadership Award from Family Planning Advocates of NYS, the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA) Advocacy and Public Affairs Award and the Visiting Nurse Service Nurse of the Year award.
