Biographical Sketch:
Co-Investigator and Project Director , Health Research Association, Los Angeles, 2003 - present Research Scientist, Division of Research on Children, Youth, and Families, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, 2001-2003 Data Analyst/Research Associate, Division of Adolescent Medicine, Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, 1996-2001 Research Assistant, Institute for Prevention Research, University of Southern California, 1993-1996 Research experience encompasses all aspects of managing a research protocol. Currently co-investigator and project director for Project Connect, an 8-year CDC-funded multi-level intervention to reduce adolescent pregnancy and STDs, including HIV, in Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) middle and high schools (P. Kerndt, PI). Oversees development and implementation of the data collection protocols as well as multiple intervention programs within study schools, the district, and in the community. This collaborative effort includes 12 LAUSD high schools and 14 middle schools (26 schools total); staff, teachers and officials from the school district; parents of students at participating schools, health care providers, the L.A. County Department of Health Services, UCLA, and other community groups and organizations. This project is in its sixth year. Also served as data analyst, research associate, lead data analyst, and Principal Investigator on studies conducted within the Division of Adolescent Medicine at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. Research experience has encompassed quantitative and qualitative approaches, cross-sectional and longitudinal epidemiologic studies, social network analyses, and a variety of sampling methods ranging from street-based random sampling to snowball sampling to random sampling by classroom. Author or coauthor of 10 publications relating to sexual risk and reproductive health. Numerous presentations at scientific meetings.
