Biographical Sketch:
P. Canessa was appointed as Executive Director of Salud Latina/Latino Health in 2001.Through her leadership the organization has successfully subsequent grants in the areas of HIV prevention, HIV capacity building, chronic disease prevention (arthritis, diabetes and cancer) and the adaptation/formulation of innovative HIV/STD prevention models. In prior positions, P Canessa served as expert in maternal and child health and adolescent health to the World Health Organization and the United Nations Population Fund Activities. Through this period she facilitated the development of over 2000 new programs targeting youth and women in over twelve countries. She has published and designed numerous articles and educational materials that are are currently used to improve the engagement of Latino sub-groups in public health and health promotion programs.
