This manual was developed as part of the “Evaluating Integration of HIV Surveillance Data with a GIS” project with the objective of demonstrating methods for spatially linking existing HIV surveillance data with other datasets to enhance epidemiologic, analytic and technological capacity at the local, state, and national levels. This manual provides surveillance programs with the necessary guidelines to:

•     geocode and manage geographically-linked HIV surveillance data

•     link surveillance data with appropriate external datasets

•     create maps describing the geographic distribution of diagnosed HIV cases and related services

•     protect the security and confidentiality of the surveillance data.
