Biographical Sketch:
Since 2005, Amy V. Smith, MPH, has been the Health Promotion and Health Education (HPHE) Unit Chief of the Disease Prevention Section of the California (CA) STD Control Branch and the statewide Director of the STD Community Interventions Program (SCIP). The HPHE Unit and SCIP staff provide technical assistance, curricula development and professional trainings to local health jurisdictions throughout CA on the primary prevention of STDs, with a focus on youth and young adults. Since 1996, Amy has developed and delivered numerous health education counseling sessions, professional trainings, consultations and community-based programs in English and Spanish focused on issues of health promotion, chronic disease, youth development, STD/HIV prevention and sexual and reproductive health.
