Biographical Sketch:
Richie Diesterheft has been a Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) at Howard Brown Health Center for just under a year. Although he is new to the field, he participates in Chicago’s Syphilis Elimination Task Force and is currently working on a new social networking project focused on discovering HIV-positive persons through newly Syphilis-infected individual’s social networks. Prior to being a DIS, Richie student led an undergraduate course at DePaul University called “The Diverse Faces of AIDS” and volunteered for two and a half years as an HIV/STI test counselor at the Broadway Youth Center. After graduating with his Bachelors degree, Richie served in the Peace Corps volunteering for the Dominican Republic’s health sector. In conjunction with working at Howard Brown, Richie continues to further his knowledge in the broad health field, but most interested in infectious diseases, and is attending classes at Truman College to earn a degree in Registered Nursing.
