Biographical Sketch:
Since receiving the M.P.H. in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2002, Kimberley Lucas has worked as a Research Scientist, project manager and HIV incidence surveillance coordinator for the California Department of Public Health, Office of AIDS. Her research is focused on social/behavioral risks for HIV, particularly among the incarcerated and among African Americans, who are disproportionately affected by both HIV and incarceration. Kimberley is currently serving as Principal Investigator for two research projects in collaboration with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. One study aims to compare interpersonal and social contextual HIV risks among African American and white HIV-positive and recently documented HIV-negative prisoners during times incarcerated and in the free community. The second is a comprehensive evaluation of the condom access pilot program being conducted in one California state prison. Kimberley has extensive experience leading and coordinating research in correctional settings, working closely with correctional custody and medical staff, and conducting sensitive HIV sexual and drug use risk-assessment interviews with prisoners.
