Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Robert A. Myers has more than twenty eight years of experience in public health laboratory practice in the following areas: Virology, Immunology, Molecular Diagnostics and Molecular Epidemiology at the State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Laboratories Administration. He is the Deputy Director for Scientific Programs of the Maryland DHMH Laboratories Administration responsible for the scientific oversight of the six Scientific Divisions of the organization (Newborn and Childhood Screening, Virology and Immunology, Public Health Microbiology, Environmental Microbiology, Environmental Chemistry, Molecular Biology). Dr. Myers also serves as the Division Chief of Molecular Biology. He serves on the APHL Task Force for HIV Diagnostic Testing. Dr. Myers closely interacts with the agency counterparts including CDC, APHL, Department of Agriculture, EPA, FDA, as well as the Epidemiology and Disease Control Prevention. Dr. Myers has trained and supervised more than a hundred scientists and health/industry professionals. He has developed and provided laboratory training activities and seminars for Laboratory staff and State and Local Health Department epidemiologists. Also, Dr. Myers conducted HIV related laboratory training activities for visiting scientists from developing countries and conducted training sessions for HIV related testing for public health scientists and government regulators in India. Furthermore, he participated in providing public health laboratory training for Post Doctoral NIH Fellows, as well as mentored a Ph.D. candidate who was conducting human monoclonal antibody research in one of the laboratories that he supervised.
