Biographical Sketch:
Since producing videos on her Youtube channel in 2006, Kicesie quickly found a following of youth, emerging adults, and parents, interested in both her day-to-day life as well as her warm, open approach to human sexuality. She is currently the 7th most viewed individual to have ever published videos online. Her topics range from helpful problem solving in human sexuality, to straight talk on STDs and pregnancy prevention. The average viewer is mostly male, with a mean age of twenty-four. She has accumulated about 200 million online views (200-500k/day).
We believe it’s her flexible approach to sexuality that reaches such a massive number of people without any advertising. She has been able to speak to middle schools and universities on sexual assault and is planning a campaign to speak to a wider number of schools as soon as she has finished the formation of her non-profit, made fully possible by her viewers.
She receives nearly one hundred messages a day from youth and young adults. She responds to about 20%. Her daily contact with so many young adults has been extremely educating. She describes the experience as having a “finger on the pulse of our youth.”
Her Senior research study focused on the effects that different forms of pornography (defined as sex positive, mainstream, and derogatory) had on attitudes toward women.
A Master Thesis paper was written by Ms Kelsey, and is awaiting publication regarding the evolution of sex education via the internet, specifically through surveys of Kicesie’s viewers and a look at Kicesie’s work.
