CDC is committed to ensuring that appropriate and acceptable process and outcome indicators are developed and used to measure national progress in advancing sexual health. In 2011, representatives from collaborating CDC divisions developed an initial set of indicators to provide an overall view of the state of sexual health in the US. Existing indicators from nationally representative surveys were selected to measure the following domains of sexual health: knowledge, attitudes, communication, service delivery, behaviors, relationships, and adverse health outcomes. There are substantial gaps within existing national surveillance systems, indicating the need to expand existing surveys in collaboration with partners.
