Manages the conceptualization, development, and evaluation of multimedia products and web sites, with particular emphasis on learning environments and instructional tools.Research foci include health behavior and health behavior change; mediated learning environments, constructivism and purpose-driven learning; instructions, warnings, and informational messaging; reasoned action theories; and the relationship of information, knowledge, and performance.
Grants and contracts from NIH and CDC totaling over $10 million in direct funds, with efforts including interactive and online STI educational curricula materials for schools, research and materials development to support diffusion of partner-delivered patient therapy, instructional media to improve STI assessment and treatment among primary care practitioners and pharmacists, as well as efforts related to a wide range of other health provider and consumer issues from fetal alcohol spectrum disorders to conflict resolution, prescription drug messaging and sharing to pressure ulcer prevention, each with a focus on why people do what they do and what can be done to change the things they do.
Primary author on over 30 referreed publications and a wide array of conference abstracts related to health behavior and behavioral change, including many STI prevention and treatment.
