Biographical Sketch:
Dawne DiOrio Rekas is a public health advisor with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention assigned to the Indiana State Health Department as the Assistant STD Program Manager. Ms. DiOrio Rekas has a Masters degree in Public Policy and Management from Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Bloomington, and an undergraduate degree in Social Welfare from the University of Southern Maine. She has worked in public health for 24 years in federal, state, and local governments as well as not-for-profit agencies. Her professional background is primarily in HIV prevention (HIV counseling, testing, and partner notification) as well as sexually transmitted disease control programs but she has also worked with at-risk adolescents in a family planning clinic and agencies serving the homeless. She has served as the STD Program Manager for the state of Maine as well as the HIV Counseling and Testing Director for the City of Chicago.
