Biographical Sketch:
Mark Pineda, is a Disease Intervention Specialist for Howard Brown Health Center, Mark has been with Howard Brown Health Center for four years and in his capacity as DIS for three years. Mark is presently continuing his undergraduate studies in Sociology with focus on Psychology and LGBTQI health. Mark is part of the DIS programs’ partnership with Chicago and Illinois Departments of Public Health – Syphilis Elimination Task Force in response to increased rates of syphilis among men who have sex with men which has evolved into a nationally recognized model of cooperation between a community-based organization and health departments. As Committee member for Howard Brown Health Centers' Latino Committee he co-facilitates the Latino Support Group, Empoderando Comunidades/Empowering Communities. Mark presented at the 2009 LGBTI Health Summit 2009 – “HIV and STDs, it’s the same thing, right?” – The state of HIV/STD in Latinos of Chicago. Mark is also a 2009 recipient of the Chicago Windy City Times' 10th annual 30 Under 30 Award.
