Serve as the lead for the Section in communicating and advocating with the private medical community to implement initiatives aimed at reducing the burden of chlamydia and gonorrhea in Michigan.
Establish communication with medical providers and health management organizations to increase chlamydia screening coverage, appropriate retesting, and partner management/referral in the private sector.
Determine current rates of success related to HEDIS and work directly with providers who have low screening rates, particularly in areas of high morbidity to increase chlamydia screening.
Work in concert with local STD programs to increase activity of private providers in their jurisdictions.
Build capacity regarding partner management across public and private sector. Work in conjunction with local health departments to conduct the following activities.
Develop or obtain materials to distribute to providers, including disease fact sheets, data on disease intervention success, and methods of partner referral.
Develop or obtain materials to give to patients testing positive for gonorrhea and chlamydia that they can give to their sex partners as a method to refer them for exam and treatment.
Provide technical assistance to providers on how to discuss partners with their infected clients.
