Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Ginocchio is the Senior Medical Director and Chief, Division of Infectious Disease Diagnostics, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, North Shore-LIJ Health System. She is a Professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and the Department of Molecular Medicine, Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine, NY. Her laboratories provide comprehensive infectious disease diagnostics for 11 hospitals and numerous Pharmaceutical Clinical Trials (vaccine and anti-microbial treatment) that encompass all areas of Clinical Microbiology (bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and virology) with state-of-the-art molecular testing facilities. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, from St. John’s University, and her PhD, with Highest Distinction, from the Department of Microbiology and Genetics, School of Medicine, State University of NY at Stony Brook, where she is an adjunct Research Associate Professor. Responsibilities also include numerous laboratory, hospital and health system committees and active participation in staff education by directing the Medical Microbiology course for adult and pediatric infectious disease fellows and pathology residents for the NS-LIJHS and the Medical School Microbiology Laboratory Course at SUNY Stony Brook, NY. She is a member of the NS-LIJ Hofstra University Medical School curriculum committee. Dr. Ginocchio is a member of the American Society for Microbiology (Delegate, Laboratory Practices Committee), Pan American Society for Clinical Virology (President Elect), American Society for Clinical Pathology, Association for Molecular Pathology and a member of the College of American Pathologists Microbiology Resource Committee. She is Co-Editor in Chief for the Journal of Clinical Virology, Section Editor, 10th edition Manual of Clinical Microbiology, and on the Editorial Board for Clinical Microbiology Reviews. Dr. Ginocchio has been an invited speaker at over 200 national and international conferences, has published 5 book chapters, over 140 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts. She is a member of five International Biotechnology Advisory Panels and National Advisory panels for the NIH, FDA, IDSA, ASM and CAP.
