Biographical Sketch:
The laboratory provides service support for large scale studies to define the natural history of genital herpes and risk factors for transmission of HSV to sex partners and neonates. The test used in these studies (HSV Western blot) was developed in my lab and remains the gold standard test for antibodies to HSV-1 and HSV-2.
Another application of the HSV antibody typing test has been to provide an FDA-accepted comparator test for development of commercial blood tests for HSV antibodies. Six kits have been cleared by the FDA after extensive clinical trials in the virology lab.
