Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Safran has been a U.S. Public Health Service Medical Officer since 1993, and is currently the longest serving psychiatrist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As a CDC medical epidemiologist and psychiatrist, Dr. Safran has given numerous scientific presentations on psychological factors related to public health, and led successful efforts to gain acceptance for mental health as part of CDC's scientific mission. He has been chair of the CDC Mental Health Work Group since 2000.
