Professional Experience: As Director of the HIV Research Section at the San Francisco Department of Public Health, I have been leading multi-site efforts to understand risk factors for HIV infection and conduct prevention intervention trials in high-risk MSM for 20 years. I am the Principal Investigator of the SFDPH unit that participated in the CDC’s US PrEP safety study, and the global iPrEX PrEP efficacy trial. I am also the Principal Investigator of an NIH-funded R01 focused on evaluating the potential role of combination prevention strategies in MSM in the Americas. I have been on the faculty at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) since 1988, where I serve as Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology. I have served in leadership positions in the HIV Vaccine Trials Network and HIV Prevention Trials Network, and on numerous NIH and UCSF advisory committees.
