Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Rothman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine with a joint appointment in Internal Medicine (Infectious Diseases) at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. As Director of Research, Dr. Rothman oversees all new research studies and programs and is well positioned to ensure that the stated objectives are met. He has served for more than 8 years as the American College of Emergency Physicians consultant to the CDC for HIV testing in EDs, and leads several subcommittees for the American College of Emergency Physicians and the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine in evaluation of various public health initiatives, including HIV testing initiatives. Dr. Rothman has published several position papers supporting ED based HIV testing, served as an expert for the CDC in several nationally presented teleconferences on HIV CTR and is a Health Care Alliance leader for the CDC’s newly established National HIV/AIDS Partnership (whose primary objective is advancement of rapid HIV testing in EDs). Dr. Rothman also established and chaired the first meeting for the National ED HIV Testing Consortium. Dr. Rothman has been a full time attending physician in Emergency Medicine at the Johns Hopkins ED for 11 years and is an experienced clinical investigator.
