Biographical Sketch:
Richard Zimmerman is the STD Section Chief for the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Sexually Transmitted Diseases Section, in Springfield, Illinois. Richard joined the IDPH, Division of Laboratories as a virologist in 1990 and was promoted to the Section Chief of the Clinical Laboratories in 1992. In 1997, he joined the HIV/AIDS Section and supervised the staff in the HIV Counseling and Testing Program. Richard graduated with a Master’s degree in Biology from the University of Illinois, Springfield and a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology from Eastern Illinois University. Prior to his government career, Richard was a Microbiologist and faculty member for the Medical Technology School for more than ten years at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois.
