Biographical Sketch:
Anne M. Johnson MD FMedSci DBEis Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at University College London. She is Chair of the UCL Grand Challenge of Global Health and Chair of the UCL Population Health Domain. After training in medicine in Cambridge and Newcastle, she specialized in Epidemiology and Public Health. She has worked in research in the epidemiology and prevention of HIV and sexually transmitted infections and other infectious diseases for 30 years. She co-directed the Medical Research Council, UK Centre for Co-ordinating Epidemiological Studies of HIV and AIDS from 1985 until 1999. She was principal investigator on the 1990, 2000 and 2010 British National Surveys of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (Natsal ). In addition, her current research portfolio includes international HIV cohort studies, behavioural intervention studies and a community study of the epidemiological and immunological determinants of seasonal influenza transmission (MRC Fluwatch). She has published over 300 articles in the field of infectious disease epidemiology in peer-reviewed journals. She was formerly Chair of the UK Medical Research Council Population Health Sciences Group and member of the MRC Strategy Board. She is a member of the Adaptation Sub-committee of the UK Committee on Climate Change. In 2011 she was appointed to the Board of Governors of the Wellcome Trust.
