Biographical Sketch:
Jacky Jennings, MPH ’98, PhD ‘03. Dr. Jennings' long term goal is to contribute to research on how structural factors of neighborhoods affect adolescents' and young adults' risk for STIs including HIV and ultimately, to conduct structural-level interventions to prevent and control STI and HIV transmission among urban, disadvantaged youth.
Dr. Jennings is the Principal Investigator on a five year Career Development Award (K01) from NIDA. The primary goal of the K01 is to determine whether and the extent to which drug markets explain the association between structural factors of neighborhoods and risks for STIs among urban, disadvantaged youth.
Dr. Jennings collaborates closely with the Baltimore City Health Department and is the lead on an initiative funded by the CDC to decrease HIV transmission in Baltimore City through the identification of high HIV transmission areas. The project will involve enhancing screening and testing in identified areas as well as public health detailing to primary care providers. Collaborators include the Center for Social Design Practice at MICA.
Dr. Jennings is also leading a large-scale evaluation of evidence-based programs designed to reduce teen pregnancy and negative reproductive outcomes in the State of New Jersey.
In addition, Dr. Jennings directs the Center for Community Health Research (CCHR) which provides research support services to faculty across the Bayview Campus and the Department of Pediatrics. She also Co-Directs the STI training grant at the Bloomberg School of Public Health which supports five pre-doctoral students.
