Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Wiesenfeld is an Associate Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh and Associate Investigator at Magee-Womens Research Institute. He is the Director of the STD Program at the Allegheny County Health Department in Pittsburgh, PA. His research work has focused on defining the role of STDs and PID on infertility. His research has described the association between seemingly uncomplicated lower genital tract infections with upper tract inflammation, delineating the extent of subclinical PID in women with or at-risk for STDs. His research group has investigated the impact of subclinical PID on subsequent infertility, furthering the understanding of the role of STDs on reproductive health. Dr. Wiesenfeld has authored scholarly works including scientific articles, book chapters and textbooks in the field of STDs and reproductive infectious diseases in women.
