Biographical Sketch:
Dr. Haggerty is Associate Professor and Head of the Reproductive, Perinatal and Pediatric Epidemiology Area of Emphasis in the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology. Dr. Haggerty is also a member of the Magee-Womens Research Institute, the largest women's health research facility in the country. The overall goal of her work is to improve health, prevent disease, and eliminate health disparities among reproductive aged women and their children. She is a leader in women’s health research and is one of only a handful of investigators worldwide researching the causes and prevention of PID and its sequelae. Dr. Haggerty has been principal investigator on numerous studies combining sophisticated and cutting edge microbiology and reproductive epidemiology, supported by three R01 and two R56 grant awards since 2005, four specifically examining the prospective associations between non-gonococcal, non-chlamydial bacteria, PID, and its long term sequelae. She is also serving as Co-PI of a CDC funded U48 case control study of chlamydia and infertility among women assessed for tubal disease or treated by assisted reproductive technology.
