Biographical Sketch:
Philip A. Chan, M.D., M.S., is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Brown University and attending physician in infectious diseases at The Miriam Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island. Dr. Chan graduated from medical school at the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vermont where he also obtained a Master’s of Science Degree. He completed his residency training in internal medicine and fellowship in infectious diseases at Brown University. Dr. Chan is currently funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to study HIV epidemiology in the region. Dr. Chan is also director of the Rhode Island STD Clinic which offers free and anonymous testing for HIV and other STDs. Dr. Chan also started a pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) program at the clinic to provide this new medications to prevent HIV. Dr. Chan serves as Medical Director for the Office of HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STDs, and TB at the Rhode Island Department of Health. He is working with the Department of Health and other community organizations on several statewide initiatives related to HIV and other STDs.
