Biographical Sketch:
2008 - Present - Director (and previously, Associate Director), Center for Health Equity Research, Behavioral Health Sciences Research and Training Coordinator, NIH Building Infrastructure Leading to Diversity (BUILD) Program, Director, NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) Research Infrastructure for Minority Institutions (RIMI) Project, California State University, Long Beach 2003-2008 - Private consultant to community-based organizations. Provided guidance and services in the following areas: promotion of community-based participatory research principles such as equity and inclusion, application of theory to community-based programming, development of tools to measure health agency performance and health outcomes unique to populations and health issues of interest. 1996-2002 - Served in leadership roles for community based organizations delivering services to underserved minority populations such as Vice President, Community Affairs, Planned Parenthood Orange and San Bernardino Counties, Director, Programs and Planning Coalition of Orange County Community Clinics, and Executive Director for the Laguna Beach Community Clinic, Inc. 1991-1996 - Project Manager and Manager of Preventive Health Clinical Services, CDC/Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services “Project RESPECT” Authored and co-authored 12 papers on topics related to the abstract including barriers to HIV testing among Black men, social discrimination and its health effects, and other HIV prevention targets including condom use inconsistency and error rates among urban STD clinic users.
