Biographical Sketch:
Lao-Tzu Allan-Blitz is a third year medical student at the David Geffen School of Medicine who has been concentrating in global health. His research includes analyzing limitations of tuberculosis culture confirmation in Botswana, as well as characterizing the prevalence of extra-genital gonococcal and chlamydial infections among men who have sex with men and transgender women in Lima, Peru. He has presented his findings at several national and international conferences. He is currently researching the impact of a novel gonococcal resistance assay on the choice of treatment for gonococcal infections at UCLA. He has recently been accepted to a scholarship program that will enable him to spend a year in Peru researching HIV prevention strategies. He also serves as senior chief for a student-run homeless clinic. Through the clinics he has developed educational health workshops and conducted research on education strategies, which was awarded at an internal conference of free clinics for research advancing knowledge regarding student-run free clinics. Additionally he is the co-founder and coordinator of the Counting on U campaign at UCLA promoting humanism and professionalism across the health system.
